| On our guided tour, our first stop was the Ming Tombs. The Ming Tombs are a group of mausoleums for 13 Ming emperors. The first one was built in 1409. The emperors were burried here with all of thier gold and treasures. Their bodies and treasures are burried under a huge (1 sq km) mound behind the mausoleums. Unlike most tombs in the world, these tombs have been protected over the years and have not been robbed or excavated. One tomb was excavated by the chineses government but the rest remain untouched. The Chinese feel that we should leave the tombs untouched for future generations. |
