Topanga Canyon, Palm Springs, Ride the Subway

California not only has big cities and bright lights, it also has outdoors to offer the California adventurer. Only a thirty minute drive from our home are state parks that provide great hikes, beautiful wildflowers and wonderful vistas.

King Wai and Lynda on a nature tour in Topanga Canyon.  The spring flowers were in bloom and the colours were beautiful!!!!!!
This is a yucca flower in bloom. It blooms only once at the end of the plant's life, after about 12 years.  Because of its shape it is commonly known as "our Lord's prayer".
After hiking for about two hours through wilderness, you are very surprised to rise over the peak and see the beautiful ocean along with miles and miles of city!!!  This is a picture of King Wai overlooking Santa Monica Beach and Malibu.

Palm Springs

The living desert is a fascinating garden and zoo near Palm Springs. It describes what life is like in a desert, and shows how plants and animals survive.  It has an excellent display of animals, including wild birds and cats that I had never seen before.  It recreates desert zones from all over the world,  including a new African recreation.
Take the tram tour for $5 or walk around, but don't visit from April through September.  It's way too hot!!!

Click on the map below to see what the place looks like.

Ride the Subway

The subway is a looooong way under ground.
One thing that not many Los Angeles know how to do is ride the subway. We find that it is allot of fun, and very convenient when we are going downtown.  We can avoid parking costs and traffic jams.  A token is just $0.90, and (unfortunately) the trains are seldom busy.
